We are really sad to announce that the Princess Diana Handkerchief has now had to be discontinued as the lace that was made for edging Diana's bridal train and bodice in 1981 has finally been used up. Thank you for everyone who now owns one of these special pieces.
We have now found some vintage lace in our stock rooms which we think maybe a fitting replacement for the Princess Diana Handkerchief. It is a pure cotton lace which is embroidered onto cotton tulle, which is a cotton net, what makes this lace really special is that it is not only embroidered once but twice! This gives the lace an almost 3D effect and of course adds significantly to the cost. The pattern itself is based on flowers and leaves incorporated into a wide edge of a traditional lace design.
The handkerchief has a soft cotton lawn centre and is designed to be worn as a fashion statement. It is especially attractive when folded into a top pocket and delicately used to dab a tear at a wedding or christening. All our handkerchiefs make wonderful gifts for these occasions and are dispatched attractively presented on a gift card, which contains information on the original Kitty Fisher and a short history of Nottingham Lace. This is a keepsake of the last surviving manufacturer of lace products.
